About Outdoor Knitwear 

Commando Knitwear Ltd is a small family run company, based in Leicester in the UK. Formed in 1978 by Trevor Hall and his father-in-law, the company is now managed by Trevor, his wife Maureen and daughter Kirsty, together with their experienced team.

 

The company started out producing 100% wool NATO sweaters that were sold on the local Sunday markets. Over the years, Commando Knitwear developed a reputation for selling hard wearing, functional sweaters which were used extensively by police forces and security firms around the world.

 

As a family with a keen interest in outdoor pursuits, it seemed natural to develop a range of country sweaters, reflecting the traditions of country life and proving that hardwearing woollen clothes can also be stylish and attractive. Our success is based on using only the highest quality materials – as 1000’s of satisfied customers around the world can testify.

The Niffi and Woolyback ranges are suitable for men and women and some designs are also available in children’s sizes.

 

In addition to a range of dyed shades, the “Classic Outdoor Sweater” is available in natural undyed welsh mountain wool, utilising the beautiful colours and hues that are only produced by nature.

 

The jumpers and sweaters you will see on this website are all made to our unique designs, and are the result of 30 years of knitwear design and manufacture. Whilst we don't make the knitwear ourselves these days, most are produced by a local UK company, to our exacting quality standards.

Products made in the UK can be identified by the Union Jack symbol.

For products made outside of the UK, you can be assured of the same quality - we have personally vetter the production facility to ensure that it meets our quality standards and has good working conditions for employees.

All knitwear is produced using 100% pure new wool (with the exception of the workwear sweater). The country sweaters have real suede shoulder and elbow patches and are completely washable.

Until now, Commando Knitwear’s sweaters have mainly been sold through clothing outlets and specialist stores. This autumn, Commando Knitwear is proud to announce the launch of their new website Outdoor Knitwear (www.outdoorknitwear.com) enabling more people to see our British designed knitwear and buy securely online. The new website displays all colour choices and the option to customise some sweaters with our embroidery options. Shipping is free throughout the UK and we offer competitive rates of shipping to the rest of the world. Coming soon, a variety of clothing products and accessories designed to complement our knitwear.
