Specialising in quality wool jumpers, Outdoor Knitwear is part of the privately-owned Kempton Clothing Limited Group, whose origins date back to 1922 in our home city of Leicester. Today, we still uphold the traditional values of our founder, Thomas Kempton.
From the 1920s through to the 1960s, T W Kempton Limited became the default knitwear manufacturer for defence organizations the world over, producing famous and high performance wear including the ‘Woolly Pully®' and the ‘Submariner Sweater’, which we still proudly produce to this day.
By 1980, the company employed over 1,600 staff involved in producing our premium knitwear for high street multiples, retail chains and fashion groups.
By 1989, the market in the UK had changed dramatically and the company withdrew from the fashion market, returning to its core values and traditional strengths in the military, uniform and corporate markets, and becoming known as T W Kempton (Corporate Clothing) Limited.
During the last 25 years, the company has continued to be a major manufacturer of military, uniform and corporate knitwear and clothing, with sales in over 30 countries.
We have also undergone planned expansion into PPE body armour products, with our successful 'Fortis®' ballistic protection brand. The acquisition of Commando Knitwear brought another dimension to the business, which has subsequently been rebranded as 'Outdoor Knitwear'; a quality manufacturer of country woolly sweaters under the 'Woolly Pully®' and 'Niffi®' brands, together with the newly introduced 'Niffi Nautical®' brand.
